Values and Code of Conduct

We respectfully acknowledge that R&B Brewing is on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

We are committed to maintaining a space that is free of hostile and offensive behavior and speech, including but not limited to sexism, transphobia, homophobia, racism, xenophobia, violence or harassment in any way shape or form.    

 

We expect that all guests respect the human dignity of all individuals and groups within the space, regardless of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical or mental disability, size or appearance, or religion.

 

Having a ‘Protected Space’ environment at our brewery means that each and every guest should feel welcome to participate in services free of threats, intimidation, harassment, unwanted advances, and the deliberate, or negligent, creation of unsafe or uncomfortable conditions will not be tolerated. 

 

We promote a willingness to learn and grow, including taking responsibility for the impacts of your own behavior and actions.

 

Those who are not able to follow our code of conduct will not be welcome in our space.

30/90/2021 - codified a practice of bussing unattended drinks, charging customer phones, allowing non-customers to use washrooms

20/09/2021 - General Manager and Head of Front of House participated in "Are You Serving it Right Seminar" related to creating safer restaurant and bar spaces 

20/09/2021 - Performed an internal course on how to achieve more diverse hiring for all current hiring managers

30/08/2021 - Updated our all inclusive washroom signage

30/08/2021 - Updated email signatures to include pronouns and land acknowledgements

30/08/2021 - Created an R&B Code of Conduct

Steps to have taken in 2021

  • Partner with Bloom and bring on one of their residents as a casual employee

  • In the winter staff meeting, have a workshop with all staff on inclusivity and diversity

  • Improve the diversity of our staff

  • Make a cash donation to a local charity

  • Change bathroom signage

  • Create a diversity Slack channel to give resources to staff to update themselves on diversity related topics

  • Have in place a safe reporting mechanism for staff and patrons to report issues anonymously within the business which need to be addressed

  • Perform a secondary space audit and make any improvements

  • Include inclusivity discussions in all Production Meetings with ownership

  • Include inclusivity discussions in all Manager Meetings with the management team
